I went to Kauai for my 40th birthday, this was the first time I had been to Hawaii. I had five days to get in as much exploring as possible, and let me tell you, I did not stop. I decided to do a helicopter tour. I had never been in a helicopter before. Well, here is the funny thing. 1. I can get some pretty serious motion sickness. 2. I have a thing with heights, not severe, but it can cause me a bit of WTF. So, what did I decide to do? A doors-off helicopter tour, of course! I had a butt pucker moment when we took off and realized what I was doing, but for good images, I will do a lot. The view was incredible. But then the pilot started spinning in circles. It makes sense, this way, everyone gets to see every view. So here I am, ready to hurl, but at the same time, I am not sure when I will ever do this again. I have this thing; if I am shooting something important to me, I will suck it up until I am done. Soooooo I told myself “Suck it up, buttercup, you can be sick later.” I wound up taking deep breaths and bracing myself on the dividing wall in between taking images. That’s right, I did not stop taking pictures. Luckily this tour was on my last day there, because I was sick for two days after that. But it was sooooo worth it. The lesson I took away from this… I need to find a way to get private tours so that we can go in one straight line. Goals!
